2-1 Static-Sensitive Devices
Electrostatic-Discharge (ESD) can damage electronic com ponents. To prevent dam-
age to your system board, it is important to handle it very carefully. The following
measuresaregenerallysufcienttoprotectyourequipmentfromESD.
Precautions
• Useagroundedwriststrapdesignedtopreventstaticdischarge.
• Touch a grounded metal object before removing the board from the antistatic
bag.
• Handle the board by its edges only; do not touch its components, peripheral
chips, memory modules or gold contacts.
• Whenhandlingchipsormodules,avoidtouchingtheirpins.
• Putthemotherboardandperipheralsbackintotheirantistaticbagswhennotin
use.
• Forgroundingpurposes,makesureyourcomputerchassisprovidesexcellent
conductivity between the power supply, the case, the mounting fasteners and
the motherboard.
• UseonlythecorrecttypeofonboardCMOSbattery.Donotinstalltheonboard
upside down battery to avoid possible explosion.
Unpacking
The motherboard is shipped in antistatic packaging to avoid static damage. When
unpacking the board, make sure the person handling it is static protected.
